We see this common occurrence as a huge problem with operating Cells. The main reason being, that it is a spiritually dangerous situation. These people are receiving a number of different things which are unique to our Church from our Home Cells, for example, they are getting our teachings, our culture, our anointing, our system and style, our doctrine and our pastoral care. This is dangerous because this could be totally different from their Church's teachings, culture, style, doctrine, anointing and pastoral care. We are not in the business of introducing division amongst churches. Many times these people return to their Churches and take issue with their leadership, because they have been taught something in our Home Cells which is different to their Churches teachings. Their Churches leadership becomes offended with us, which was totally not our intention. Oppositely these people are usually attending our Cells because we are supplying a need that their Church is not.
This is what we practically do, to rectify the situation.
We approach the leadership of the Church of these people who are attending our Home Cells. We inform them that their members are attending our Home Cells. Usually, as a result of this, by being transparent, they are inquisitive as to what we do in our Home cells. We try to establish a meeting with them to propagate the Cell Church movement. Our motive being that we want to see them grow and adopt Cells. Cells are not our property, we want the whole of the Body of Christ to be blessed. Our motive has never been to grow by gaining other Churches members. The ideal result being, that this other Church will adopt the Cell principles. We send their experienced members back to them, so that they can help their Church initiate Cells.
On occasion, some Churches are threatened by us and are totally opposed to Cell thinking. We explain to their members that are joining our Cells, of the dangers mentioned in the first paragraph. We tell them that we are not going to be used as an instrument to cause disunity or offense. They would need to decide to either join our Church or go back to their own Church. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. This might seem a bit harsh, forcing people in a direction, but we are not interested in having these people who are not sold out to our vision. We are interested in making these people true 'sons of our house'. They cannot do this when they are submitting to another father. Obviously, we are sensitive, and also this challenge has to happen at the correct time, but as a rule if a person has been attending our Cells for 6 months, they are challenged to make a decision.
We have seen from experience, that the bulk of these people who have been attending our Cells, have not been active in their Churches. The transition for them to our Church, requires minimal effort. We are not happy about this situation, members changing Churches does not expand the Kingdom of God, we are far more excited in bringing in unchurched into our Cells, because then we know that we are effectively reaching the lost.
There are some people who want to attend our Cells but for some strange reason they want to remain in their own Church and attend their own celebrations etc. They misinterpret our challenge to join, (they think we just want to push them to join so that we can grow our Church.) This is sincerely, not the case. Cells are about accountability, how can you be truly accountable, if you are not prepared to submit by joining? We don't avoid these issues, in love we challenge, and if people are offended and break association with us, we know that we have done the right thing.
