Selected Question: Is it practical for a Lay Leader to oversee 12 Cells? |
Answer: No, the greatest effect that we have seen, is for leaders to oversee 3 Cells with a maximum of 5. Why? logic says that there are on average 5 weeks in a month. The Coach needs to visit each Cell at least once per month. A coach can also deal with the problems related to 3 Cells far more effectively than 5 Cells. Fifty people become a huge responsibility for a leader to effectively shepherd. A good figure of thirty people, can be shepherded more effectively. If the focus is shepherding, more quality can be built into less people. We have seen statistically, that smaller zones multiply faster than large zones. Leaders are more content with smaller zones. (3 Cells). Leaders are much more informed of happenings in smaller zones. In Youth Cells esp. no more than 3 cells per coach. A coach who is coaching three Cells does not operate their own home cell. To give more perspective to this, most of our Zone Supervisors which are lay people, have completed a national diploma in ministry through our college. They are skilled, experienced labourers. They have the same qualification as most of the Pastors. The point is, that with these skilled lay people, we try and only have them look after 3 cells at a time. Despite their 'Expertise'. If the cells are operating as they should, then generally they become quite time consuming. This was the main reason why we did not go pure G12. If effective G12 ministry takes place, then you will need each coach of 12 cells to be full time. Part of the reason why G12 Churches in South America can keep the pace, is because the bulk of their congregations are unemployed. Upto 90% in some instances. They have the time.
