Selected Question: What is the mobilisation phase in transitioning a Cell Church? |
Answer: Understanding the Mobilization Stage during a Transition. In this stage the transition/planting begins more in earnest as you turn your focus from learning to doing. Your utmost goal in this phase is to recruit and develop as many leaders as possible. This in turn involves learning and implementing the roles of the Zone Supervisor and Zone Pastor (or similar in a G12). There must always be an ongoing interning and multiplication of leadership on every level. As you develop and appoint new leaders, multiplying Cell groups, you can also begin to communicate the vision and values in a stronger manner. Dont preach Cell Church, rather preach the New Testament body life and outreach. It is essential that the people see the Cell Church as the Biblical way of doing things and not the Pastors latest idea. Realise that the biggest question in peoples minds is how this is going to effect them. You must answer this question. Make it clear that no one will be forced to do anything. Keep your ear to the ground and discover the plans that satan has to create confusion and miscommunication. Keep praying and respond to the peoples honest questions with clear communication. Some people may take years before getting involved in Cell groups, perhaps some never will. Do not be overly concerned about this. As you involve new people in Cell leadership roles, realise that you will need to let go of some existing programs and activities to free people to give themselves fully without burning out. Do this with prayerful consideration, wisdom and boldness. The selection of Leaders provides the foundation that God will be building on. Continue to soak your leadership recruitment and training in prayer. Even Jesus did not presume to rely on His own wisdom but intensely prayed about who His leaders should be. If He needed to seek the Spirits guidance how much more should we. Build your new leadership also from the new converts. These people have no misconceptions and this makes them easier to train. Do not let the initial groups become overfull, as this will diminish outreach effectiveness. Understanding Restructuring from Programs. - Many leaders start at this stage not realising that a careful foundation must be laid in terms of vision, values, learning and discipleship. The result of beginning with restructuring without proper preparation is disastrous.
- This step involves continual fine tuning the initial Cell system and introducing the levels of Zone Supervisor and Zone Pastor. The entire system will grow smoothly if we continually involve training and internship at every level. The concept of modelling is Biblical and very effective.
- Once the Cell structure is firmly in place then start closing down all the programs that are in conflict with the Cell system and make everything relate to Cells. E.g. introduce Cells into your Sunday School, Youth, music departments.
- Understand that the best way to remove a toy away from a child is to offer something else instead. Continually report through public testimony and by statistics how God is working through the Cell Groups. This will let people know how God is working through the Cells and not the programs.
- Even if they are small. You should be initiating Zone Supervisor training meetings for those entering this ministry.
- Begin to reward your Cell leaders with recognition and perks. Ways of recognizing them are to present them in Celebration meetings or by giving them corporate gifts, T-shirts etc.
Building a Base Congregation A Cell Church should grow at a constant rate but if the critical mass of 120-committed leaders is reached then exponential growth can be experienced. At this point you can successfully move totally into a Cell Church. -
