Selected Question:
In a situation where a mixed group (men and women) together is led by a husband and wife team, how can one handle a situation where the better leader is obviously the wife but the official leader is the husband and is not very keen to let his wife lead?
Answer:
Answered by Little Falls Christian Centre

John 8:32 - "You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free". There is tremendous power in truth. We have got to the point where we don’t play games with any people but rather speak directly and truthfully. One of the main values of a Cell Church is that we are raising up people to discover their abilities in Christ. Not everyone is a good leader or shepherd, we can equip everyone with basic facilitation skills, but lets be honest not everyone makes a good Cell Leader, Why? They simply might have a different gifting or anointing. A good Cell Church learns how to utilize all of the gifting can in a Cell context. Use the evangelist at what they do best - reaching the lost, use the administrator at what they do best - let them administrate, use the compassionate to show compassion etc.

We need to get to the point where we recognise each other’s gifting and not be threatened by it. My wife does a lot of things better than I do, this does not threaten me, in fact I rather want to encourage her to become the best that she can be. If this leader is going to be threatened by his wife he is also going to be threatened by any other strong leader that joins his Cell.

A sign of a good leader is someone who works himself out of a job. A good leader has nothing to prove, rather he wants those around him to take the lead. If Jesus did not put the responsibility of reaching the world into the hands of the twelve around him we would not be here today.

My advice: Visit the leader, and explain the above to Him. Tell the leader why you think his wife makes an excellent shepherd. Explain to him why he is still critically important to the Cell, the wife needs to know that she is operating from a point of submission and that her true authority lies in being released by her husband to operate. Tell the husband that she needs his covering and protection, she cannot address issues relating to males, he has too. Her success is determined by his willingness to release her into her potential. Encourage him on his strengths, she might be stronger in this area, but that does not make her more important. In short tell the leader the truth. See what reaction you get, you might discover an undealt with issue in this persons life.

Originally, a Pastor in Zimbabwe asked this question. There is obviously a cultural aspect to be taken into account. In many African nations woman are still seeing as been inferior to men. In God’s eyes we are all equal. The only way we are going to break this stigma associated with gender is to look at things through God’s eyes. I am not advocating a move away from Biblical truths relating to women and their role in the Church and home. There is nothing more beautiful than to see a submissive woman, operating under the blessing of her husband, in the necessary integrity and covering move into her destiny in Christ. Do you know that 70% of David Jonghi Cho’s Cell leaders, in the biggest Church on the planet, are women?
